About me
Where are you going, Geperudeta?
This project was realised durich a residency at Valencia Print Workshop. In my research I discovered the patron saint of Valencia: “La Virgen de los Desamparados”, the Lady of the Forsaken, or “Geperudeta”, hunchback. In various festivals she is carried around, serenaded, touched and dressed in flowers. She is trapped in her position and acts as a canvas for the projections of others.
In my project I explore the idea of her stepping out of her passive role, becoming active and choosing her own path. I playfully explore themes of emancipation, gender roles and religion and find my own personal connection to the Virgin Mary.
